The River Walk was carried out as a reconnaissance of the upstream stretch of the Periyar River Basin, with particular focus on the upper reaches of the Periyar main stem, Muthirapuzha, and Chinnar tributaries. another objective of the visit was to collect data for the Nirmal Dhara initiative from the Idukki District and also to collect data pertaining to the biological profile of the basin. Additionally, water samples were gathered from strategic locations for quality assessment and tested in GSCoE’s laboratory facility and Environmental Engineering Lab at IIT Palakkad.

As part of the Nirmal Dhara data collection effort, the team visited the Suchitwa Mission office in Idukki, where information on the district’s solid waste management systems were obtained. The visit also included interactions with officials at the Periyar Tiger Reserve, for the data pertaining to the Biological Profiling of the Periyar Basin.
